Excited to attend ABAI for the first time, Marissa shares below the invaluable insights she gained from some of the industry’s most meaningful conversations.

Last week in Orlando, a unique energy filled the air as private practice leaders gathered for the APTA Private Practice 2025 Annual Conference. Our team from Ensora Health attended and was inspired by the determination and curiosity we saw. We spent our time in sessions, hallway conversations, and one-on-one discussions with clinic owners who are navigating a challenging, but promising, rehab therapy landscape.

Across every conversation, a few priorities stood out. Practices are seeking financial stability, simpler operations, and practical technology they can use immediately. There was also a strong focus on improving access to care. If you couldn’t make it to Orlando, we’ve pulled together the key takeaways and a powerful story shared by one of our customers.

A story that stood out: Our conversation with Tim Smith

The highlight of the event was our fireside chat with Tim Smith, VP of Operations at the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities. His organization is deeply mission-driven, serving many families who rely on government assistance. This means that any financial disruption has a direct impact on their ability to provide care.

Before partnering with us, Tim’s team faced a serious problem: a backlog of more than 3,000 outstanding claims. This administrative burden was putting their stability at risk. Tim shared what that period felt like and the immense pressure it created for his team.

He also talked about what changed once they implemented Fusion by Ensora Health. The center went from over 3,000 outstanding claims to zero. That shift protected their operations and allowed them to fully refocus on the children and families they serve. It was a powerful reminder that solving administrative problems can have an immediate and meaningful impact on care.

Tim recently shared his story in a short video that captures the heart of what he told the audience. Watch Tim’s story here.

Key themes from the conference

Beyond Tim’s powerful story, several core themes emerged from the sessions and discussions.

Reducing administrative strain

A consistent topic was the operational load that contributes to burnout. It’s often not the client care but the administrative burden – scheduling, documentation, and billing – that drains the joy from practice. The consensus was clear: practices want tools that make front-desk workflows more manageable and automate mundane tasks. Efficiency is the new currency for a sustainable practice.

Strengthening financial stability

With reimbursements remaining flat while costs are rising, many owners feel the squeeze. The conversations focused on smart financial strategies. Many are exploring hybrid models and cash-based services like wellness visits or performance training. Diversifying revenue streams creates a more predictable financial future and allows you to treat clients without being entirely limited by payer rules.

Practical use of AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has moved from a futuristic concept to a practical tool for today’s therapy practices. The conference highlighted real-world AI workflows that can support documentation and help reduce claim denials. Many practices are beginning to see AI not as a “nice to have,” but as a standard and expected part of their operational technology.

Maintaining access and equity

It was heartening to see a clear focus on how private practices can better serve underserved communities and improve continuity of care. Clinic owners are asking important questions about how accessible their services are and what needs to shift to reach the populations that need them most
